SOMMER Messtechnik develops and sells sensors and environmental monitoring equipment including system solutions for data recording, data transmission and analysis of the captured data. With more than 30 years of experience SOMMER is a true measurement specialist and reliable partner in hydrography, meteorology, industry and water management, sewage and for geotechnical applications.

Innovative Doppler radar sensors for discharge measurement, unique snow monitoring technology as well as user friendly systems for data management and telemetry give proof of the distinct spirit for innovations in this company. Realising monitoring systems far from any infrastructure and in remote and harsh environments, such as alpine and high alpine weather stations, builds another field of experience of SOMMER Messtechnik.

Back in the mid-1980s the company founder, Mr. Wolfram Sommer, made the step to start his own business. At the beginning still together with a corporate partner, Sommer GmbH & Co KG became an independent company in 1997 and was renamed to Sommer GmbH – better known as SOMMER Messtechnik – in 2013. In the early years the business focus was clearly on the so called home marked, that is Austria, Germany and Switzerland, whereas toady SOMMER holds his ground in a global environment while still being an owner-managed family business. Meanwhile our international sales covers numerous countries around the world and on all continents.

Software for mobile discharge measurement using - salt tracer or fluorescence tracer

The new software for SOMMER TQ-Tracers, TQ-COMMANDER 2.0 sets a new standard in doing tracer delution measurements.
Featuring a new and fresh state of the art design, ease of use and customer friendliness was a clear target through the development process.
There are a lot of new and improved features in the new TQ-COMMANDER 2.0. As an example Applicators will be guided step by step through the measurement process with immediate check of each step.

Mobile discharge measurement system for turbulent rivers with unknown cross-section profile - salt tracer

The discharge measurement is performed by using the well-established tracer-dilution method. The system can be deployed in turbulent rivers, creeks or waters for which data regarding the cross-section profile are not available or unknown. It is used salt (NaCl) as tracer material. After insertion of a known amount of tracer material two conductivity probes automatically determine the discharge. This way high plausibility and accurate results can be guaranteed.

Mobile discharge measurement system for turbulent rivers with unknown cross-section profile - fluorescence tracer

The discharge measurement is performed by using the well-established tracer-dilution method and is especially suitable for high volumes of water. The system can be deployed in turbulent rivers, creeks or waters for which data regarding the cross-section profile are not available or unknown. It is used a fluorescent material as tracer. After insertion of a known amount of tracer material two optical fluorescence probes automatically determine the discharge. This way high plausibility and accurate results can be guaranteed.

Wind & Weather

Robust, durable weather stations for recording diverse meteorological data

The automatic weather station is made for measuring several meteorological parameters. It is designed and built for the long-term use under extreme weather conditions without any infrastructure. The AWS can be equipped with diverse sensors according to the specific customer requirements. SOMMER places great emphasis on highest quality and is specialised for weather stations in alpine and high alpine environments.

Wind measurement done by state-of-the-art technology

The measurement of the wind speed and wind direction are regarded as elemental meteorological parameters. As a producer of automatic weather stations, company SOMMER has gathered a vast experience in the wind measurement and cooperates with wind sensor producers of worldwide leading format.

Reliable measurement of air temperature and air humidity for experts

Temperature and humidity measurements are needed for diverse requests and are of the most important meteorological parameters. Often both of the parameters are recorded with one sensor. SOMMER is offering with the Hydroclip and the MP-408A two very robust and long-term stable sensors for fulfilling highest requirements.

Measuring the barometric pressure

The air pressure sensor PTB110 measures the barometric pressure and is made for the installation in a radiation protected switch cabinet or weather shelters. It has got a high long-time stability and can be used in a harsh climatic environment.

Extremely robust and reliable acoustic hail sensor with size classification

The extremely robust and reliable HDI sensor is a highly specialized acoustic instrument for the detection of hail and the characterisation of hailstone sizes.

Extremely robust and reliable acoustic rian sensor with drop size classification

The RHD is an acoustic, high precision and ultra-robust rain sensor that requires no maintenance.

Sewage & Waste Water

Non-contact discharge measurement for wastewater, sewage systems and industrial waters

The radar sensors of the SQ series continuously measure the discharge(flow) volume of sewer systems, ducts, semi-filled pipes and other technical channels in the fields of wastewater and industrial effluents. Due to the contact-free measurement deposits and other solids in the water do not harm the sensor. This is especially advantageous for the measurement of wastewater. The compact design allows an installation in manholes or in sewage systems.

Non-contact discharge measurement for open wastewater channels

With the RQ-30 Niro - same as with the RQ-30 - a continuous measurement of the discharge of open rivers and channels is determined. A high quality stainless-steel housing allows the usage even in aggressive waters and wastewater, as for example in sewage, canal systems or industrial facilities.

Discharge measurement via tracer dilution method for sewage - fluorescence

The discharge measurement is performed by using the well-established tracer-dilution method and is especially suitable for big volumes of water. It is used a fluorescent material as tracer. When using the tracer in sewage water most often a continuous insertion of a known amount of tracer is done. Two optical fluorescence probes automatically determine the discharge. This way high plausibility and accurate results can be guaranteed.

Data & Telemetry

Reliable, very compact data logger

Gathering, processing and saving of measuring data - simple, practical and quick. The MRL-6 is a reliable and energy saving data logger. Thanks to its weatherproof housing it is optimal for the use in environmental measuring technique and without further infrastructure.
